Hello folks…is de Christmas season again, so here is ah TNN Christmas edition…(deep voice).. Dis is TNN…..  ah glass of local wine, went  to his head…. he turned to me and said… Oh yes! Trini Christmas is de bes’!  (Is de bes’! Is de bes! Trini Christmas is de bes’)…… (background music)

APPOINT OR DISAPPOINT.....!

Eh-heh…. everybody lookin’ round now, like dey expectin’ somet’ing to suddenly fall on dey head… election come an’ gone, an’ we still eh sure which party go be in power…. we better change we anthem to de “Stars and Stripes”, wha’ yuh t’ink?  Boy, look trouble… yuh t’ink de Cobra worried…. not dis snake brudder.. according to de Constitution, de PM is still in power, as is de AG, de budget done pass since October, an’ de country runnin’ as usual, so I eh see de need for panic..

But de PM say dat dis ‘power vacum” might be filled by subversive forces (ah t’aught we had ah army?) if we eh careful, so de President should call him in an’ ask him to form de nex’ government….

Manos an’ de boy sen’ letter to de President askin’ him to stay he han’ because if de courts decide dat two of de representatives invalid, then is de PNM in power again…. so de Pres. Shouldn’t appoint, only to disappoint.  

De EBC now releasin’  de certified results (Tuesday), so de Pres. Could act anytime now or wait on de courts (should be over in 2 weeks or less).  

My t’ing is, why hurry?  We have some drastic decision to take before now and New Years?   Well de PM could sign de papers, he is still PM…… some civil rebel group takin’ power….?   De las’ time it happen, ah government WAS in power! BUT on de odder han’ until we have a settlement, we have to go wit’ what we have, so de Prez. should install…. six of one, half a dozen of the odder…..

De odder argument is dat if de court rule against de two candidates, den dey go be goin' against de will of de people…  Dis have nothin’ to do wit’ politics, it jus’ happen to take place at a period of political importance…

Dis is a LEGAL matter… were de nominations papers valid of not?  Were false declarations made by the candidates or not?  If the form is incorrectly filled out, can de nomination be valid? If I fill out ah Customs form incorrectly, will de Customs Officer accept it?   Answer is obvious……. People say Manos grabbin’ for power at all costs?  Which makes him as moral as de res’ ah dem…….. Who allow de ball to drop?  De Opposition or de Ruling party?

Now, if Manos is ah gentleman, what he need to do, if he get de two seats is to call ah election, after cleanin’ up de lists in de EBC, which are terribly outdated, is to call an election an’ leh we see how t’ings will turn out…. Will he do dat?  Ha! HA! Ha! …Ah politician give up power?!

An’ further, de courts will not be disenfranchisin’ people if dey reverse de results… de screening committee who did not check on de candidates, is de one who disenfranchise dey supporters!   Leh we eh look for excuses, yuh make ah mistake an’ yuh might very well pay for it..!   AH doh want to hear talk from either side.. We have ah Justice system, leh we use it…. on to de courts!  Like dey in love, how dey “Court-ing” so?   I funny yes J…

 

 

 

 

 

TEST-ING TIME.....

Well, ah had to wait 5 (or really 4 days an’ one hour) to see Australia win 3 of de Five Tests, so de Frank Worrel Trophy stayin’ dey for de 3rd consecutive time.  

De only bright spot on de horizon was Lara’s innings of 182…. runs, yes, runs!   De Australians label him “de bat from Hell!” 

If yuh see blows,…left, right an’ centre…. back, belly an’ front!   He cart dem all over de groun’.   Lash Dem Lara in full flow…..  Ah hear de bowlers couldn’t sleep in de night, because dey know dey have to face Laro in de morning. … but wit' all dat, dey still manage to crash for 140 all out in de second’ innings.. My word! 

After 391 in de first innings, dey rot set in….. an’ is so Australia take advantage.. match finish early in de Fifth Day, an’  “Frankie” have to reside in Australia at de start of  de century.  Not ah good sign atall…. 

We still seein’ ah dependency on Lara to make runs, or else de team lorse…it so bad dat de commentator tell Captain Jimmy dat de West Indies improve, dey actually make it to de fifth day… all de odder tests finish in 3 days….

Dat is consolation?! DAT is an improvement….dat is like ah man tellin’ yuh yuh come las’ in class, fail de exam miserably, but at least yuh stay in de examination room….

Ah doh know what else to say about de team… an’ in ah way ah sorry for dem eh.. yuh getting’ good blows an’ yuh cyah even come home for Christmas… is probably de only team dat does be overseas for Christmas…..

What does dat say about de West Indies Cricket Board?  My only wish is dat Santa send dem some shame for de season, so dey come out an’ fight for de las’ two tests…

 

 

 

 

 

LIME Inc.

Yes man, de limin’ start…! AH missin’ sleep like ah missin’ money! Office party, nex’ night parang finals in Arima, den Paramin parang fiesta …boy, de season really come! 

De Trini Christmas  feelings startin’ to grip meh….. boy, ah really wish alyuh was here yuh know…... in spite of all de election nonsense, an’ man goin’ to court an’ all de comess, people jus’ smilin’ …no bitterness, no acrimony…yuh know what ah mean?! 

Hear nah, why every parang show have to start at least ah hour late… ah rush up Arima… de papers say 8 p.m. when ah reach by de gate at 8:10, dey tell meh is 8:30.   Dey start wit’ GUEST ARTISTES at  9:50…!  Yes, we know dat latin people never early, but oh gorrrrrrmmm!  Like de crowd did know dat, because dey eh start comin till after 9.   

Once again Alicia Jagessar an’ Los Alumnos de San Juan win de finals for de 3rd time runnin’… dey start of singing in secondary school an’ now dey blazin’ de trail… dat young girl good!   Even de ole timers who sit dong, dey nod dey head in approval… she jus’ have to mature in de t’ing now, but she have makings of ah true parang queen…. 

Rememeber Gloria Alacazar (San Jose Sernaders), Charlen Ali Khan (same group), Daisy Voisin…..?   Yeah, well dis is de lates’ one on de scene… ah even talk wit’ she, yuh know… buh ay-ay… ah have to give meh l’il two cents worth of comments…. so when she reach ah could say… yes, ah did tell she dat! 

Den in Paramin. Was de usual confusion to get transport to go up de hill, because is either yuh reach early an’ park by somebody yuh know, or risk fallin’ off dem precipice tuh go up dey.  Yuh either need four wheel drive, have to be part goat, or yuh better have legs like ah Olympian to climb!  De only t’ing after Paramin is de sky… bird does go up dey wit’ oxygen masks…!   An’ when tell yuh col’…

If yuh see de wild meat, pastelle , arepas, provision, corn soup, callaloo…man, yuh could make yuh name!  Parang from de ole timers such as Lara Bothers to groups like Jus Frenz, new latin groups dat form ah couple years ago…. man Spanish an’ rhythm for so… 

Ah was wit’ ah crew in front de stage an’ man in between groups, is soca parang in yuh head, man han’ in de air…..wooooo yooooiii!   We still have Lewah (Les Rois) to come, but ah t’ink ah see de bes’ for de season.. ah wish alyuh was here.. we go deal wit’ elections after Christmas!

 

 

 

 

DAT TIME AGAIN....

Yes folks, is dat time again.. de mos’ wonderful time of de year… ah know some ah alyuh cyah make it… but de Cobra go do he bes’ to sen’ ah l’il card to some ah alyuh, because ah know when de white stuff start tuh fall, an’ yuh eh get yuh stock ah mauby, ginger beer, sorrel, pastelle, punch ah crème, home made sweetbread, an yuh put on yuh radio an is not ah parang yuh hearin’ (oh gorm, doh cry , nah!) yuh might miss de homelan’…

Buh doh worry, we remembering alyuh on dis side…. ah go take one for all meh TNNers, who dey wit’ meh, t’rough t’ick an’ thin….. keep de spirit in yuh heart, an’ remember we too….. we togedder, is jus’ dat we cyah see one anodder right now..

Lan’ an’ water cyah separate we, no matter what……. say ah greeting to everybody an’ make at least one person ah l’il happier dis year.. de Cobra suggest dat maybe if you pick ah charity in TnT, alyuh could send ah monthly US$20 or £10 to dem , it mightn’t be much, but it go go ah long way on dis side…..ah woud be glad to send de addresses of ah list ah charities…..  Remember cheques, not cash (if yuh ever want it to arrive!)..

So alyuh keep de Trini warmth in spite of de col’, an’ de Trini hospitality, in spite of de strangers…. take care…. love from de Cobra, now an’ always…..
