TNN SPECIAL ELECTION UPDATE

GRIDLOCK… DEADLOCK… DRAW… WE  TIE! 

Yes folks, we have a situation in Trinidad:18 seats UNC - 18 seats PNM.. what we go do?!  Well, before ah give meh perspective, de legal and constitutional option is for de Prez. to call in Bas and ask him to form a government if he could get de majority in de House.

Snowball chance in Hell, barring some “jumper” from de PNM!  If  Bas cyah get somebody to support him to give 19 seats what den…?!  Appoint de Cobra, of course….!  Ah sure ah could command de majority in de House, but since ah wasn’t elected ah miss out dis rounds.  But seriously, what ah t’ing……!

Now, meh thought eh fully gel yet eh, but for now ah believe dis is de bes’ result at present for de country… for de pass couple a years we seein’ dat de Constitution stretch to de limit, even to de case where it was being used to contravene democratic principles (in my opinion!).  

We have to realise dat we need constitutional reform… de law never catered for dis an’ therefore it is almost irrelevant.  De country is being forced to t’ink for ah change.  Ah believe somet’ing like over 40% of de electorate didn’t vote and a day before de election, de largest group in de polls was de “undecideds”….

What dat sayin’?  De people tired of de same ole dotishness.. we need not so much ah leader, but ah set of resource managers.. people who know how to harness human, economic, environmental, intellectual resources to make ah system work.  People who have ah ingrained sense of honour an’ understan’ what democracy means… dat RESIGNATION is always ah option (please note Bas an’ Pathos!).  When yuh party lose, STEP DOWN…(note again Bas and Pathos!).  Yuh cyah be hangin’ on an’ draggin’ people dong wit’ yuh an’ insistin’ dat who doh like it could leave…! Dat was for ole times….. Politics is no longer about power, but proper management and accountability.. dat is how yuh get power…. if de people doh believe that yuh represent dem, dey wouldn’t (and didn’t) vote. 

Now we must have ah government, we cyah go in dis way… an’ believe me, ah nex;’ election is not de answer.. we had one las’ year, we had dis year, we go have one in 3 months time again?!  So what?!  Is ah lime we on… when yuh feel yuh jus’ call one?  No, an election is held at de end of a term or in dire circumstances.. to have 3 general elections in 18 months make ah mockery of what ah election is… dat cyah be de solution.  What would de Cobra do…..?

Brudder, sista, sid dong an’ talk about dis.  If alyuh is big men, come together an’ see if yuh could find somebody on either side who alyuh trust to run de country in de interim 3 months or 6 months.  Den start de work of constitutional reform, draft common plans for education, financial stability and social services.  Appoint joint ministers … namely, if ah UNC is ah Minister of education, den de Deputy minister mus’ be ah PNM, etc….. yes, it go have big fight for ministries, but if Afghanistan could sid dong an’ work out ah interim government an’ dem have more tribe dan we have people what de Hell wrong wit’ we….?! 

Why go for shortcut an’ bribin’ man to come over an’ all dis nonsense.  Dis is about ah nation, ah people, ah destiny… no time for small minds (oops.. obstacle number one!).  After 6 months or ah year or whatever, when we fell we have somet’ing work out… den yuh could try for de polls or continue on as de case might be.  

I believe is bes’ dat happen for two years.. an’ dis is why… wit’ respect to de Ministerial appointments, if yuh want, after one year de minister would step down an’ de Deputy Minister would now become Minister, so we could have ah true comparison.  

Of course dese t’ings have to be drafted as ah contract, so nobody eh go try to call ah election suddenly an’ upset de applecart or pineapple wagon for personal or party gain.   

In the meantime, yuh get to see new people comin’ on de scene an’ not de same ole damn fools who holdin’ dong seats because dey cyah risk givin’ it up in case de party lose. 

Doh leave out de odder people like NAR or Team Unity, both of whom get whitewash… dem must have ah say in de t’ing too…. alyuh, is time to come togedder.. de country need ah res’ from all dis ole talk, in fightin’, outfighting an’ general madness. We need to focus on what really matters, we people an’ especially we chilren.  

Remember dem lookin’ to see how we solve problems, how we could work togedder… because right now I fed-up, you fed-up, we fed-up an’ on dis merry-go-round, people jus’ getting’ dizzy, sick an’ disoriented an’ worse of all, disinterested.  Everybody t’inkin’ bout self or party an’ not country…. We just cyah go dis way….!
