Dat las’ shriek was de soun’ of an aircraft company tumblin’ out of control…..

Las’ week, Air Caribbean, the major bridge between Trinidad and Tobago, gently crashed sendin’ X no. of people home.  

Poor Tobago… dey ferry goin’ on dry dock, dey cyah get ah nex’ one here in time, so dey have to run de Panaorama long after the date for dry dockin’….. is bes’ dey really go independent yes, because it easier to go Miami dan to go dey…..! 

Brudder jus’ so, de bank move in on de offices an’ tell people pack up.   BWIA had to struggle to get people back an' forth, an’ of course dey eh honourin’ no AC tickets because de company bankrupt… after borrowing $100m from a now government owned bank….

De owner of de airline,one (Un)Lucky Samaroo what ah name!) had already crashed two odder airline projects, so dey give him $100M to start ah nex’ one…  I trust de bank have enough money to pay interest to dey depositors … an’ who de hell approve dat loan?!  Somet’ing fishy dey…

Dey tell de man he could run de TnT airbridge, den tell de NATIONAL airline BWIA dat dey cyah run de same route, it go be competition an’ pull dem off de route…  Now if Unlucky cyah compete, why give him ah airline in de firs’ place….?   If yuh fin’ yuh need more planes on de airbridge, jus’ lease ah couple small planes from BWIA… at least dat make more sense to me..   But Unlucky decide to expand up de islands, even to Miami, an’ now de bubble burst!  Too much hot air if yuh ask me…. I say bring back de Air Caribbean bridge, but dis time, give Unlucky $200M to start it…..!

Well I am happy to report dat dere is now a bill before Parliament to assist home buyers against some nasty unscrupulous mortgage practices from de banks…..

Actualy we need a lot more legislation, but this is ah start.   Everybody complainin’ about de “robbery wit’ violence” dat dem banks does commit on people. 

Ah mean, could you imagine dat de spread on interest between deposit an’  loans is at least 9%.   So if dey givin’ yuh 4% interest on savings, dey does charge yuh 13% on loans… Madness! 

Imagine if you will, dat banks borrow money at 4% on de open market!  On top ah dat, when yuh go for ah mortgage, dey does tell yuh dat de interest is 13% but after add on “charges” poor you end up payin’ over 20% on de loan.. which means dat if yuh borrow ah $300,000 mortgage, which is ah simple 2/3 bedroom house, over 30 years, some  poor young couple go end up payin’ over ah MILLION dollars for de house…Murder!  

An’ if yuh decide after some time dat yuh want to change house an’ decide to give somebody else de mortgage, some ah dem does tell yuh, yuh HAVE to pay ALL dat yuh owing de bank before yuh do anything wit’ de house, an’ dem dat allow de changes, is money in yuh pfefen yuh have to pay!  

So de bill tryin’ to correct de unfairness wit’ de transfer of mortgages.   Of course de banks up in arms about dat…. if yuh t’ink ah lyin’ about how banks diggin’ out yuh eye, consider dat one ah dem just declare over $400M dollars in pre tax profits of de first SIX months of dis year! 

A bank ah say , One, single solitary bank.. what about de odders?!  An’ dey complainin’ dat dey spendin’ so much money to put in ATM bankin’, so dey have to recover costs an’ all kinda nonsense.  

An’ it eh have no competition between banks in dis place.. everywhere is de same t’ing, because de chairman of bank A have shares in bank B, an’ bank C,  so is ah whole network of “de boys”.  So who will bell de cat..?  Every government so far fraid to break up de bank cartel….. apparently money doh jus’ talk… it could keep people silent too!

HANGIN' AGAIN....

Yesssir….. we had a hangin’ las’ week in TnT…of a different sort.  One of our Members of Parliament (MPs) decided to ‘heng’ heself wit’ stupid talk….

Ole Morg(ue)an Job decided to drop a bombshell in de August chamber las’ week…  A bit of background is necessary.. de Minsiter of National security was out of de country so Morgues was actin’….. had to be, because he couldn’t be serious!   Somebody pass ah cheque to him which was issued to de Opposition party some years ago by a big time company.  Morgues say dat de 2.5 Million dollar cheque was a bribe by de company chairman to get de company shares in a methanol company.  

Talk about foot in mout’… well he swallow up to he knees!  First of all de methanol company he was talkin’ about was a private concern between private partners, so de government had no part in it.  Secon’, de odder methanol company which did have government interest in it, had decided to give de gov’t shares to a Japanese company not to de local conglomerate.   In fact it was de present gov’t who reversed dat decision and gave it to de present company whose chairman is a party financier… oh Lord! 

So Morgues jus’ accuse a major financial backer of de party of a criminal offence!  De Opposition nearly dead laughin’.. of course de PM was not too amused.  Now remember Don Juan Carlos John(ny Come Lately), de present Minister of local Government, up to a year ago  was a big boy in dat company.. so Carlos jump on Morgues like “white on rice”….!   How he company was a company of integrity an’ how could he accuse de company chairman of fraud?!  Further, a present member of de company has admitted dat (as de Opposition said) dat de money was a donation to de party’s campaign fund. 

Who give him dat degree?!  Anyway, ah hope he have ah plot of lan’ in Tobago, because if de PM get fed up wid him, like Shadow, he go plantin’ peas in Tobago!

A TIME TO BE QUIET....

I doh know what to say about Pathos (leader of de Opposition) again…. Papatrick on de platform about 2 weeks ago say dat he uncover ah plan by de government to rig elections, by transferrin’ people from one constituency wey dey goin' an' win to marginal constituencies, to pull dem seats….. an’ he have evidence which he give to de Police.

Now if I was Papatrick, I woulda han’ de evidence over, doh say nothin’, an’ when de Police jump on dem, come out an’ say “I give de Police de evidence …”etc.  

Nope, he gone on de platform an’ announce it, so if dere was a plot, man simply burn de sheets an’ evidence… if dey have as much intelligence as ah brain dead ant!  

So of course de Police had information, an’ based on de evidence (which apparently was good enough for ah judge to issue ah search warrant), dey search de houses and offices of some big  boys in de party.  

If dey fin’ anything, I would be as surprised as ah mongoose in ah car headlight….. 

Learn to hush yuh mout sometimes, nah!   But de police say dey have someone who dey protectin’ who givin’ eveidence, but de government say is some ole t’ief dey hire who vex, an’ dream up de whole t’ing to embarasss de government etc, etc….. De Pm say he go sue de state for de house searches…..(himself takin’ himself to court…) 

We go see how t’ings turn out…. but boy, between Morgues an’ Pathos, is ah runnin’ battle for Stupid Talk of  De Year Award!
