Well, dat famous Trini expression took on new meaning last week when we saw five “big boys” line up outside de magistrates court for matters relating to dis famous Piarco Airport. Some on corruption charges, some on money laundering, defrauding de government… 

Man, was like Academy Awards.. who’s who in de private sector…..c ameras, onlookers… man we shoulda broadcast dat live all over! 

Of course some people start to ramajay….. lemme gi’ alyuh de lacouray……

One of de companies who get caught in de swoop write letters to newspapers sayin’ how de Police in league wit' de government (“willing tools” were de words used..… brave words indeed.. yuh already in court an’ yuh callin’ de Police corrupt?  Based on what evidence… Like yuh want dem add libel to de charges to…?). 

Den anodder company who CEO get pick up write ah whole page ad, sayin’ dat basically is political victimisation and dat de charges are ludricrous….. Apparently some people find six charges eh enough! 

Den of course de ole Bas mus’ jump in wit’ ah classic piece ah stupidity… oh, he want dem cases pursued expeditiously an’ finished before elections call (note dat two of de people arrested is party financiers)…  Ah wasn’t aware dat Bas could tell de court when to hear case and COMMAND dem to move quickly (stay AWAY from de drug, man!)…

Den odder people say is PNM victimising UNC…..  Ah have no doubt dat de PNM takin’ full advantage of de situation to score points, but brudder….. is de UNC then Deputy Leader and Attorney General who did de investigations… de PNM just took de findings to de DPP’s office..  Note dat dis same report was on Bas’ desk for one year an’ he never budder with it.... no supporter or MP ask him why….?   No, dat woulda embarrass de man! 

Of course Pathos would not be left out….. "we expeck more arrests soon", he brayed..  Who ask him to say anything…?  You is Police, you is DPP?  

Finally de DPP had to step in an’ tell everybody to stop makin’ public comment on de case of makin’ allusions, or he go have to consider contempt of court proceedings for prejudicing de cases….

In ah way ah understand eh… people eh used to seein’ dis kinda commess, so everybody feel dey mus’ say something..

Well de case continues an’ every now an’ den ah go give alyuh ah look in….. dem fellas break de Eleventh Commandment, boy…Thou shalt not get caught!  Or in dis case “get court!”

TALK, MR. SPEAKER...

Sometimes yuh does feel as if yuh doh min’ makin’ ah jail…. because yuh jus’ have to res’ some hard lash on ah person or yuh go dead from desire!

The outgoin’ Speaker, Rupie, decide dat de proceedings of de sitting of Parliament must not be carried live because… is jus’ ah normal sittin’ an’ dese are not normally carried live……. we still wait for an explanation...

Is there a law dat says they cannot be carried live?  Yuh know de scandal wit’ de election of ah Speaker…18-18 deadlock an’ de UNC say dey comin’ with 2000 names for nominations an’ no way I Hell dey allowing ah Speaker to get elected.. so dey could force ah election. 

Of course de government have anodder six months to call ah nex’ sitting after dis sitting, an’ further they have till de budget expire and one month afterwards, so dey have till Oct 31st .  So how precisely will dis force de government hand… it would certainly allow de government to function without Opposition, no laws will be passed and the government would go about its merry way doing what it wanted.. but Bas cyah see dat. 

He say if yuh elect ah Speaker, then de government go try and stay for five years, even though de government say de lates’ dey go call election is nex’ year June and once de budget is defeated in September, de government have to call elections.

But getting back to de Speaker.. US Senate debates are carried live all de time, what so special about Parliament….?  The stupidity of it is that the ENTIRE t’ing can be showed delayed… 

So we can elect people to Parliamnet to reperesent us an’ we cyah see dem represent us…?!  So much for bringing government closer to de people! 

In fact it was found that when debates were carried live that the level of debate was raised because knowing that people were watching their every move, people started to take their work more seriously and not fool around….. but on a related matter..

A SHOW OF POLICE FORCE.....

One setta police on de streets... Woodford Square lock up and streets blocked off because of de sitting of Parliament. 

Police on high alert, Army on standby…. etc, because some people say dey comin’ to town to “show support” for de Opposition… 

Now de way I see it, once dey eh disrupt de place or cause no confusion, let dem march, jump, shout in de sun or rain, while dey representatives come in air conditioned cars, wave to dem , shake two hans’ an’ walk into Parliament. 

If dat is all dey have to do wit’ dey time, doh make it ah problem…. Doh deprive dem…. If dey cyah understan’ dat 10,000 people outside doh count for one vote inside, doh try to explain it…. 

As it is, is like we expectin’ ah war.. some people say better be safe dan sorry, but we sorry already... sorry we have dese jokers representin’ we!

TNN INTERNATIONAL.....

Yuh know sometime ah does move over to de international scene when somet’ing dat merit comment come up (like 9/11 for example)…. so now ah lookin’ in on de Middle East situation…

When dem people intend to stop fightin’ boy?!   Since King Hammer was hatchet, dem boys lickin’ dong one anodder… so no Israel decide to take matters in dey own hands an’ move in… ah hate to t’ink of all de human rights violations takin’ place (ah wonder why dey t’row out all de journalists?)..

Israel claimin’ dat it have terrorists in dese areas, but when yuh kick in people doors in de middle of de night, order people out of dey homes, run ah bulldozer over it, make people lie dong on de groun’ like animals, detain hundreds for questioning, maybe de Palestinians might be wondering who de terrorists is…? 

Ah hope de Bush-man happy now, since Sharon say is terrorists like dem who cause 9/11…?   Yuh see what dis “world cause against terrorism" causin’?  Every despotic government could claim terrorism an’ remove civil liberties. 

Now Israel have to deal with suicide bombers.. people still eh understan’ dat ah desperate man have nothin’ to lose.. when yuh take way meh lan’, have meh under surveillance all de time, could break in meh house at will, etc.. what else ah have to lose? 

If yuh squeeze ah “penny-cool” gently yuh could get ah drink, if yuh squeeze it to hard, de packet burst an’ yuh go mess up yuhself an’ fail in yuh objective… yuh t’ink Israel squeezin’ too hard? 

Now yuh have de leader lock in ah room, embarassin’ ah nation an’ sayin’ yuh want peace?   At de same time, why Arafat wouldn’t condemn de suicide bombers?  In this case, silence is consent, you is de leader….

Ah see de US sendin’ Secretary of State over.. to do what..?  To tell Israel move back from de rubble...?   Why it takin’ 2 weeks to get dat done?   Just before de US envoy arrive las’ time, Sharon sen’ military into de occupied territories, so just after he leave, de bombers start in retaliation an’ Israel say “See, ah did tell yuh so!”  Nothing about de provocation, mind you….. 

An’ yuh know wey all dis commess start?  When Sharon decide to walk on de Temple Mount to show Palestine who is boss…… he take ah stroll over de Temple, ah Muslim holy centre an’ then some rabid Zionists run t’rough an’ plant ah Israeli flag on top of de Temple Mount. Dat is wen all de baccahnal begin…

But nobody eh sayin’ dat… an’ since den, is tit for tat again….. an’ is civilians getting’ blown away.. an’ is more shell shocked children, more orphans, more hate filled young minds.. 

If two ah dem young people bounce up in Port of Spain, dey woulda go round de Savannah for ah coconut water, dong Independence Square for ah doubles, eat ah pelau for lunch an’ buy ah small box of Chinese food to eat while dey watchin’ ah video later….. 

So wha’ happen…. what causin’ de problem, ……did somebody say de politicians?

so yuh could understand de real meanin’ behind phrases such as………

“We are working assiduosly on that now, even as we speak…” (ah tryin’ to see which one ah meh fren dem ah could give de contract…) 

“We have appointed a committee to look into the matter and make recommendations…… “ (hopefully ah won’t have to deal wit’ dat for de nex’ two years…) 

“……and I categorically deny such actions ever took place…” (Ah lyin’ to cover meh “rear end”) 

“In our party there is room for disagreement……” (nobody have ah clue what goin’ on….) 

“Our most valuable resource is our human resource….” (we need people vote to get in power…) 

“We will work with any group genuinely interested in improving the quality of life of the citizens…” (we need some ideas…..) 

“We believe in and extoll democratic principles in our governance model……” (once everybody agree to, an’ do what I say, things go run smoothly) 

“Leadership is about service, not power…….” (lemme make sure ah get all ah could get… me eh know how long ah go be here for….) 

“My hands are clean and my conscience is clear……” (dey eh ketch meh yet!) 

“I will say and do whatever it takes to remain in power..” (needs to be committed… is speaking the truth… a sure sign of madness!)
